Ever thought about volunteering?

Maybe you don't have a lot of time, find it hard to get out of the house, or simply don't want to travel.   What if was just once a week for an hour from home or wherever you are?

Do you like the idea of volunteering but haven't found the right thing for you yet?   Maybe you have very little spare time, or maybe you are retired or housebound but still want to do something.

I recently saw an advert asking for English speakers to share just an hour a week helping someone from the Ukraine to improve their English.   You don't have to be a teacher, you just have to enjoy talking to someone and helping them to improve by giving feedback.   What I discovered after the online interview is that I could be paired with an adult (you can specify male/female) and agree a time to suit us both - they could live in the Ukraine or not.    The web platform has lots of resources and videos to help you, but the essence is that this is about helping someone to improve their spoken English.

If you enjoy meeting and chatting to people and like this idea I would very much encourage you to check out their website by clicking the link ENGin

I recently started and didn't know who I would be paired with but am now in conversation with delightful Ukrainain woman who came to England at the start of the war with her children.  We meet once a week online (there are facilities on their website so you don't have to have Zoom yourself) at a time we both agreed.   I established what she wanted to work on and we tailor the conversation to suit her needs.

I am a retired woman, over 70, and feel that this is great opportunity to volunteer from the comfort of your own home and feel that you are really helping someone who genuinely wants to learn and improve their life and job prospects by speaking better English.

I don't know a word of Ukranain, I am not political but do support the end to the war and the soverignity of Ukraine.   Why not check it out - the more volunteers the better.   This program is run by a charitable organisation and they rely on volunteers.   From what I have discovered it is a very professional organisation.
