Seasons Greetngs everyone. I hope this blog finds you well and
looking forward to the time of year when some of us celebrate Christmas
and our thoughts are all about meeting up, presents, having a good time,
what we are going to eat and drink - all the normal things for this
time of year. Regrettably plus thoughts about Covid and safety
precautions!
I didn't write anything in
November as my mind has been elsewhere more than normal - I have been
studying for exams and that's now past (and they are passed, thank goodness) and I can get back to normal.
The act of stopping some things I usually do to make more time than
usual for study got me thinking. Do we feed and exercise our minds as much as
our bodies? That led on to all sorts of questions about how we treat the mind so differently from the body. We exercise our bodies in some form or other, anything from just walking to going down the gym, to following some kind of regime to get really fit. We think about what we eat and what we put in our bodies more than we ever did in the past. So the focus is on our physical self most of the time.
What about your mind? What diet do you feed your mind? What do you watch, read, talk about, think about, brood upon? All this is a daily routine which we give little thought to, but it all adds up to how we feel about ourselves and the world. If we continually think negative thoughts, watch downbeat and depressing tv or books, are we surprised when we don't feel as happy as we could do?
Take a few moments at the end of each day just for a few days to ask yourself a few questions:
- What did I feed my mind today?
- Was it uplifting and positive, or downbeat and depressing?
- How am I feeling at the end of the day?
The link between the mind and body is proven and the impact is strong. So if you don't like what your finding, how are you going to change it? What would you rather think, watch, read? Improving your outlook starts in the mind.
Talk about this with a friend or partner and swap notes - how do they exercise and feed their mind? What works for one may not work for you, but it will get you thinking about what you can do.
Have a wonderful Christmas for those that celebrate it, or enjoy the holiday for those that don't. It can be a wonderful time of year and taking those happy, uplifting, kind and generous thoughts and feelings into 2022 may be just what makes the mind feel great.
Namaste
